About Dance of Shadows
Dance of Shadows is a limited edition tree landscape print by British artist Claire Gill. Layers of trees, foliage, light and shadow come together to create an imagined landscape filled with movement and intricate natural detail.
Rather than documenting a single place, Claire constructs the landscape from her own photographs. She cuts out, layers and rearranges individual photographic fragments digitally until a new composition begins to emerge. As a result, the finished artwork sits somewhere between photography, collage and painting.
Created Through Digital Photomontage
Claire’s slow digital photomontage process begins with photographs gathered on walks and journeys. Trees, branches, foliage, textures and overlooked details become the raw material for an entirely new landscape.
In Dance of Shadows, light moves through layers of trees and vegetation, creating shifting patterns across the composition. Areas of intricate detail contrast with quieter spaces, giving the landscape a sense of depth and rhythm. The result captures the atmosphere of being beneath trees while retaining the stillness that runs throughout Claire’s work.
