About the Poppies Landscape Print
Poppies is a limited edition poppy landscape print by British artist Claire Gill. The artwork captures the colour and atmosphere of a summer landscape, where vivid red poppies emerge through layers of fresh green vegetation.
Rather than documenting a single place, Claire creates an imagined landscape from her own photographs. Claire cuts out, layers and rearranges individual photographic fragments digitally to form a new composition. As a result, the finished artwork sits somewhere between photography, collage and painting.
Created Through Digital Photomontage
Claire’s slow digital photomontage process allows colour, texture and small details to build gradually. Photographs gathered on walks become the raw material for each artwork.
In contrast, the strong red poppies provide vivid points of colour against the softer layers of green. The composition celebrates the abundance of the natural landscape while retaining a sense of stillness.
The layered details invite a closer look, revealing subtle shifts in colour and texture throughout the landscape. From a distance, the red poppies create a strong rhythm across the composition. Up close, individual photographic fragments become more apparent, revealing how the imagined landscape has been constructed.
