The Journey – Lake District Landscape Print

The Journey is a contemporary Lake District landscape print inspired by the quiet paths, lakes and mountains of this remarkable landscape.

Rather than recording one particular view, I created the artwork from layers of my own photographs. I cut, combine and rearrange photographic fragments in Photoshop to build an entirely new landscape.

A path leads through the foreground towards still water and distant mountains. I wanted it to feel as though you could follow it into the landscape. There is a sense of somewhere to go, but no need to hurry to get there.

Like much of my work, The Journey explores the feeling of being within a landscape rather than documenting exactly what I saw.

Created Through Digital Photomontage

I create my landscapes using my own original photography and a slow process of digital photomontage.

Individual photographs provide fragments of colour, texture, light and detail. Gradually, I layer these elements together until a new landscape begins to emerge.

The finished artwork sits somewhere between photography and painting. Although the landscape feels familiar, the place itself is imagined.
