About The Footsteps of Spring
The Footsteps of Spring is a limited edition spring landscape print by British artist Claire Gill. Layers of rolling fields, trees and fresh vegetation come together to create an imagined landscape inspired by the colours and textures of the natural world in spring.
Rather than documenting a single place, Claire constructs the landscape from her own photographs. She cuts out, layers and rearranges individual photographic fragments digitally until a new composition begins to emerge. As a result, the finished artwork sits somewhere between photography, collage and painting.
Created Through Digital Photomontage
Claire’s slow digital photomontage process begins with photographs gathered on walks and journeys. Fields, trees, plants, textures and overlooked details become the raw material for an entirely new landscape.
In The Footsteps of Spring, fresh seasonal growth moves through layers of fields and vegetation. Changes in colour, texture and scale create depth, while softer areas give the composition room to breathe. The finished landscape captures that sense of the countryside beginning to reawaken after winter while retaining the quiet, contemplative atmosphere that runs throughout Claire’s work.
