About Summer Copse
Summer Copse is a limited edition woodland landscape print by British artist Claire Gill. Layers of trees, foliage and vegetation come together to create an imagined landscape inspired by the colour and abundance of the natural world in summer.
Rather than documenting a single place, Claire constructs the landscape from her own photographs. She cuts out, layers and rearranges individual photographic fragments digitally until a new composition begins to emerge. As a result, the finished artwork sits somewhere between photography, collage and painting.
Created Through Digital Photomontage
Claire’s slow digital photomontage process begins with photographs gathered on walks and journeys. Trees, leaves, plants, textures and overlooked details become the raw material for an entirely new landscape.
In Summer Copse, layers of foliage create a sense of depth and enclosure. Fresh greens and seasonal colours move through the composition, while intricate photographic details invite a closer look. The finished landscape captures the feeling of being surrounded by summer vegetation while retaining the quiet, contemplative atmosphere that runs throughout Claire’s work.
