About Shadow Trees
Shadow Trees is a limited edition autumn tree landscape print by British artist Claire Gill. Layers of trees, branches and seasonal colour come together to create an imagined landscape shaped by the changing light and textures of autumn.
Rather than documenting a single place, Claire constructs the landscape from her own photographs. She cuts out, layers and rearranges individual photographic fragments digitally until a new composition begins to emerge. As a result, the finished artwork sits somewhere between photography, collage and painting.
Created Through Digital Photomontage
Claire’s slow digital photomontage process begins with photographs gathered on walks and journeys. Trees, leaves, branches, textures and overlooked details become the raw material for an entirely new landscape.
In Shadow Trees, areas of light and shadow move through layers of foliage and branches. Warm autumnal tones contrast with darker details, creating depth and rhythm across the composition. The finished landscape captures the atmosphere of trees in changing seasonal light while retaining the quiet, contemplative quality that runs throughout Claire’s work.
