Southwold Ferry Print inspired by Autumn in Southwold, Suffolk.
‘Still Water’ has been created by combining details of photographs taken in and around Southwold Harbour in Suffolk. My aim when creating digital collages is to always reflect a sense of the places I visit. By combining different images of the place however, an entirely new scene is created, which as a consequence leaves space for the imagination.
Many things influence my work at any one time and I can pin point a particular influence in this image. I love the paintings of Peter Doig, especially his canoe paintings. His intense use of colour and mark making combine to create very still, close and peaceful atmospheres. Trees tower over foregrounds of water. I wanted to explore that perspective in this work. The wall of trees and lack of sky creates a more intimate feeling. I loved the way that superimposing the vivid yellow lichen over the bare trees created a sense of Autumn in this print.
