The sea has a way of holding opposites at once - power and stillness movement and calm.

My new print ‘Uplift’ catches the energy of waves as they gather and break, using layers of my own photographs to create a seascape that sits somewhere between photography and painting.

Seeing it framed in this Japanese inspired interior reminds me how art can bring both life and quiet into a space. The movement of the sea becomes something to pause with rather than rush past.

I love the sense of space and subtle layers of colour, here at Wells next the sea. The mile long walk to the beach from the town changes all the time as the tide comes in and out revealing undulating sands and marine plants. ...

This was how it started!

Back in 2009 I began creating simple photo collages on the computer to get ideas for a painting. This was the first image I created from just five parts of five photographs.

I later learnt that this boat was known as the Blakeney boat and was familiar to people walking on this beautiful part of the North Norfolk coast.

In those months in 2009 when I was heavily pregnant with my second son, i fell in love with the process of digital collage / photomontage so much that I never got on to painting.

Yesterday - seventeen years later I came across this boat again. I had been delivering new work to the @birchamgallery14 in Holt a gallery which back then I only dreamt of showing work in. We visited Blakeney and saw the boat in the same place gradually disappearing.

Seeing this boat again makes me reflect on the fact that nothing stays the same - change is part of life and happens whether you are paying attention or not. It also makes me feel so lucky that I found a way into creative work which I absolutely love and want to keep exploring - and it all started with this boat. ...
