The Crossing – Walberswick Ferry Print

‘The Crossing’ or Walberswick Ferry print is a contemporary seascape print and photomontage. It is inspired by the crossing to Walberswick at Southwold Harbour. I created it by digitally combining original photographs taken in and around the area. My aim when creating digital photomontage is always to retain a sense of the places I visit. However the very act of combining different images of the place, leads to the creation of an entirely new scene, which as a result leaves space for the imagination.

I visited Southwold many times before I actually took the ferry over to the beautiful town of Walberwsick. As a consequence I always saw it as something ‘over there, on the other side. The composition I have created makes me think of trying to get somewhere and wondering how this can be achieved. For me it is about the space between where you are and where you wish to be.
